Ivo Watts Russell

Ivo Watts-Russell was the founder of 4AD, the record label that included The Pixies, Cocteau Twins, Lisa Germano, and his own curation of covers, musicians, and singers, This Mortal Coil.

All of the music he was involved with has informed our second collection—dark, mysterious, elegant, and strangely dreamlike.

Watts-Russell himself is as mysterious to me as the music he created, a silent figure in the background who seemed to make this disparate world, completely at odds with the late eighties, yet still part of it. The music he produced was ethereal, wordless at times, even though it was being sung—aggressive and soft.

It’s this balance of mystery and contrast that we’ve tried to add into Bankrobber’s second collection.
